Washing Machine Error Codes Explained: Samsung, LG, Bosch and Whirlpool
Every modern washing machine sold in the UAE displays an error code when something goes wrong. Knowing what the code means saves you time, money and — often — a second call-out.
OE / 5E (Samsung, LG): drainage error. The machine can't pump water out. Check the drain pump filter at the bottom-right of the machine, clear it, and re-run the cycle. If it repeats, the drain pump itself is likely failing.
LE (LG, Samsung): motor or Hall sensor error. Usually a wiring fault or a failed rotor position sensor. This is a technician job — do not run the machine repeatedly with LE showing, as it can burn out the main PCB.
IE / 4E (Samsung, LG): water inlet error. Water isn't reaching the drum fast enough. Check that the inlet taps are fully open and that the inlet hoses aren't kinked or blocked. If the filters at the back of the machine are clogged, clean them.
UE / UB (Samsung, LG): unbalanced load. The drum can't distribute the load for spin. Pause the cycle, redistribute the clothes and restart. If it happens with every load, the drum shock absorbers or suspension springs are worn.
E01 / E02 (Bosch): door lock error. The door isn't fully closed or the door lock module has failed. Close firmly, or if it keeps showing, book a technician — the interlock is a safety part.
F21 / F23 (Whirlpool): control-board or drain issue. Try a full power-off reset first (unplug for 10 minutes). If it returns, book a diagnostic.
As a rule: drainage, inlet and door codes are often fixable in a few minutes. Motor, sensor and PCB codes need a technician. Note the code before you call so the right part travels in the van.
