Extending Appliance Life in the UAE: A Heat & Dust Maintenance Guide
Between the summer heat, fine desert dust and hard water, home appliances in the UAE age faster than they would in most other countries. A few simple habits genuinely add years of life.
Fridges: vacuum the condenser coils at the back or underneath every 3 months. In dusty UAE apartments this is the single most impactful thing you can do — clogged coils are the number-one cause of premature compressor failure.
Washing machines: run a hot 90°C empty cycle with a washing-machine cleaner once a month. It removes limescale (UAE water is hard) and biofilm that would otherwise attack the door seal and drum bearings.
Ovens: don't use the pyrolytic self-clean function while the AC is struggling on the hottest days of summer — the extra heat load can trip the oven's own thermal cut-out. Do it in cooler months.
Gas cookers: keep burner caps dry after cleaning. Moisture in the cap is the main cause of continuous igniter clicking in UAE humidity.
Induction hobs: don't slide pans across the glass. Micro-scratches turn into cracks over time in hot UAE kitchens.
One professional service per year for each major appliance is the gold standard — a small preventative-maintenance spend that avoids much larger emergency-repair bills later.
